Ice Fyghter®

Conveyor Belt Anti-icing/Deicing Agent

Ice Fyghter® eradicates ice and fines buildup on conveyor belts in underground mines. Unlike most deicing agents, it works to prevent ice from forming in the first place. This approach is far more efficient and cost-effective, keeping your production lines moving while reducing your maintenance costs.

Don’t Let Harsh Winter Conditions Slow You Down

Winter can have a profound effect on your ability to keep production up in your underground mine. Snow, moisture and subzero temps work together to keep you from moving product. Slippery conditions cause coal to slip backward on the conveyor. Ice results in motors burning up and belts tearing when conveyors are started.

The costs are production delays, wasted manhours, repairs to equipment and more. Your mine can hardly afford these delays, especially in the heart of winter when demand for coal is at its highest.

Midwest’s Ice Fyghter anti-icing/deicing agent helps you manage these problems in the most efficient, cost-effective way possible. Lightly sprayed on conveyor belts each night and before bad weather hits, Ice Fyghter works as an anti-icing agent to prevent ice from forming on surfaces. It does this by weakening the molecular structure of water, thereby lowering the freezing point.

This protects belts from precipitation as well as moisture from coal. And it continues to work effectively, down to -40º F. (However, if needed, Ice Fyghter can also be sprayed on ice as a deicing agent, melting ice glaze instantly. No matter how you use it, it will get you results.)

Ice Fyghter can be sprayed on the top or bottom of conveyor belts, tail pulleys and trough idlers to prevent ice glaze and buildup. It also works to improve friction on the conveyor, by preventing belt slippage that hampers startup and threatens to burn out the drive.

Ice Fyghter is available in two forms: Ice Fyghter D is a diethylene glycol agent while Ice Fyghter G is a glycerin-based agent. Both are biodegradable, viscous and less corrosive to metal than water.

As with all Midwest products, Ice Fyghter is part of an entire system designed to get you specific results. To check out the spray system designed to apply Ice Fyghter (and other anti-icing/deicing Midwest products) with the precision you’ve come to expect from Midwest, click here.

Ice Fyghter keeps your production line moving with the following features:

  • Will not damage spray application systems like chloride-based products
  • Prevents ice glaze; or, if ice glaze is present, spraying will instantly melt it
  • Stops coal slides when sprayed at the tail pulley
  • Increases friction when belt slippage hampers start-up and threatens burning out the drive motor or causing excessive belt wear
  • Prevents or removes ice and fines build-up which may cause improper belt alignment
  • Minimizes carry-back
  • Non-corrosive and non-flammable
  • Leaves no residue
  • Odorless
