PROTECT ROAD INTEGRITY FOR EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION ROADS

Midwest will increase strength and uniformity of county and township roadways used for E & P traffic, while dramatically reducing dust.

MORE TRAFFIC SHOULDN'T HAVE TO MEAN MORE PROBLEMS FOR RESIDENTS

Bringing economic opportunity to American communities will naturally increase traffic and put more strain on the existing road infrastructure. Yet responsible Exploration and Production industry leaders are proactively improving roadways and site surroundings so opportunity does not come at the expense of community and residents quality of life.

Industry reputation and community relationships no longer suffer in order to accommodate busier roads associated with well site construction and material transport. Even additional general public vehicle activity, resulting from greater economic progress and growth, contribute to increased road usage.

Midwest helps E&P companies protect roads from the extra stress from all that additional traffic, getting proven results while allowing residents to benefit from the exploration and production boom without enduring unwelcome side effects.

PERFORMANCE SO MUCH DEEPER THAN THE SURFACE

If there’s anything you understand best, it’s productivity. You have to. In your world, it’s developing the site with optimum operational and logistical efficiency. You need to maximize yield while minimizing downtime and system constraints. On top of that, you are tasked to do so in a responsible manner that's consistent with the highest environmental and safety standards. In our world, it’s developing a better roadway while delivering higher performance through fines preservation. We must also minimize dust at lower overall cost, to create a better environment.

Your performance is measured in well cost and production; ours is in helping you to be successful.

Midwest specializes in surface protection and production road dust control, delivering results to both support productivity and lowest overall cost. This benefits you — and helps improve the community and its residents' quality of life.

DOUBLES THE LIFE of the road surface
Reduces the variability of the surface layer stiffness to +/-25% of the mean
IMPROVES AND MAINTAINS the “as-built” condition
Protects the “as-built” CBR of constructed roads with no potholes, rutting, raveling or washboarding
95% REDUCTION in resident calls
Down to 3 calls per month vs. 50 each day for one customer
OIL & DUST DON’T MIX

To help you maintain your company’s relationship with communities, you can count on our proven track record of delivering quality roadways and keeping production road dust under control. Midwest works with you to co-develop a customized, detailed plan designed for your needs and guaranteed to get results.

RESULTS FOR RESIDENTS:

Reduced dust levels, between 80-95%, which also improves air and water quality by decreasing particulate matter and sediment runoff. This is safer for the environment and has eased public complaints dramatically.

Roadways withstand deterioration from heavy traffic, with long-term effectiveness ranging from 1 to 3 years. These stabilized roads require minimal maintenance, as fines and aggregate stay in place to reduce the incidence of potholes, wash boarding and raveling.

RESULTS FOR YOUR COMPANY:

Reduced maintenance costs and troublesome repairs to roads, along with a reduction in complaints, are improvements which lessen production stops and expensive delays.

Financial return over the lifecycle of a road is based on custom plans with annual cost comparison data. Project management by Midwest also helps ensure performance efficacy, through detailed monitoring and reporting to you on product application and performance of each road in the plan.

In one example, Midwest reduced road maintenance costs for one of the largest E&P producers in the Utica Shale by over 60%, a significant amount since they had been investing hundreds of thousands of dollars per mile to upgrade township and county road systems to meet state requirements.

RESULTS FOR BOTH:

Increased road safety and improved driver experience for both residential vehicle drivers and commercial equipment drivers.

OIL & WATER DON’T MIX, EITHER

Water is not an effective form of dust control. A Midwest fines preservation program delivers a double benefit of production road dust control and road surface stabilization.

Though commonly used for dust control, watering requires constant reapplication, which can be costly. As a temporary, mitigating measure, water can perform for as little as 1 hour with deterioration curves that are generally rapid. The surface degrades, typically resulting in potholes, wash boarding and raveling.

Both Midwest’s traditional dust control applications and long-term fines preservation program deliver your best solution. The best technology and people in the industry execute these programs in the most responsible manner that's consistent with the highest environmental and safety standards. Gravel and fines are not lost, which is crucial because fines are the “glue” that binds the road together and forms the durable surface layer. Consequently, when unpaved roads are subjected to a comprehensive fines preservation program, roads substantially retain their “as-constructed” performance with less dust and require fewer dollars to maintain.

EXTRA STRESS REQUIRES EXTRA STRENGTH

Midwest’s customized road and surface stabilization program topically applies patented chemicals which penetrate to bind the fines contained in the surface and locks soil together for energy company, midstream company and operating company traffic. This provides a reliable traffic surface:

CONSISTENT DUST CONTROL

with desired level maintained, whether 70%, 80% or 90%

INCREASED STRENGTH

of the road and its uniformity

GREATER STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY

and bearing strength of road

MAINTAINS “AS-CONSTRUCTED”

surface of an unpaved road for longer period of time and lower operating cost

THE ROAD TO BETTER EXPLORATION & PRODUCTION ROAD DUST CONTROL

Midwest collaboratively develops your program, which is customized and tested on your site.

A product alone is not enough. The Midwest production roads dust control program seamlessly integrates into your operations for real world performance results. Co-developed with you to determine your best solution, Midwest provides accurate data for predictable performance assurance and to achieve proper scale-up and overcome obstacles to success.

Midwest offers the only customized Guided Self Apply or Fully Managed Service Programs for America’s E & P industry. Anyone can sell you a product, but Midwest’s full solution combines product science and chemistry with engineering data for your best dust control in a dynamic traffic environment with expert application, supported by ongoing service and testing.

It enables E&P traffic utilization without road quality deterioration; reduces airborne dust to desired control efficiency levels for safety, health and community stewardship; increases road surface strength to prevent surface quality issues even at steep grades; all with no road discoloration or smell and no water quality risk or issues.

Midwest guarantees these results because of Midwest's different approach — knowing the value of thinking and acting ahead of the activity needed in the field. You're guaranteed that work will be on budget, on schedule, and will deliver maximum value to you and your resident communities.

THE PROCESS FOR BETTER E&P

ADVANCED STABILIZATION

Compressor Site Pads Included

Compressor site pads experience consistently high levels of traffic throughout the year and form the focal point of activities related to natural gas extraction. In addition, the dust stirred up by the operations associated with these sites can cause equipment failure and poor visibility. In cases where the site pad is built on marginal soils, soil stabilization becomes necessary to ensure safety and lower maintenance costs.

Rather than watering your pads daily or weekly to reduce the dust caused by the traffic, Midwest’s same line of dust control products reduces maintenance costs by over 50%. The programs offered by Midwest last far longer than other comparable solutions, such as cement, and do not adversely affect the environment. With trucks making thousands of trips per year to a given site, implementing our solutions can save on equipment maintenance, too.
