Anti-icing and Deicing
Anti-icing and Deicing
Midwest’s expertise in anti-icing and deicing solutions dates back to 1975. We developed some of our first products to address the coal and rail industries in inclement weather. Our Ice Free Switch® and Ice Free Conveyor® have developed sterling reputations as highly effective anti-icing products, as they’ve been honed over decades of use in the field.
In recent years, Midwest’s team of scientists have collaborated with NASA and the Ames Research Group to develop our Zero Gravity Third Rail® Anti-Icer and Deicer, which has quickly become an industry-leading product. We’ve incorporated the same Zero Gravity technology into a number of Midwest products, including Ice Free Switch and Ice Free Conveyor. Our products are pseudoplastics, so they can be easily applied in the worst weather conditions, and are long-lasting even on vertical surfaces. What’s more, they’re also 100% environmentally safe, biodegradable, non-corrosive, and non-conductive.
Long lasting Anti-Icing Solutions
Our anti-icing products promote fast and long-lasting ice melting and prevent additional ice build-up down to -70ºF. If you wait until ice forms to take action, deicing requires five to ten times more deicing product than what you would need to provide anti-icing action in the first place.
Therefore, Midwest’s approach focuses on anti-icing, which means we address the problem before there is a problem. Applying our products prior to winter weather events can save your maintenance teams time and money and keep trains running on schedule. It’s our pleasure to serve our clients and keep their operations in good working order through the toughest winter conditions.
An ounce of prevention using anti-icing products and systems is worth a pound in corrective deicing measures. Our anti-icing systems increase safety and lower costs by preventing the formation of bonded ice and snow. When ice crystals form between coal and other materials loaded into railcars, hopper cars and truck beds, the loads in effect become one giant ice crystal structure that is impossible to unload.
Midwest’s proven anti-icing products and systems increase safety and lower costs by preventing the formation of bonded ice and snow. When ice crystals form between coal and other materials loaded into railcars, hopper cars and truck beds, the loads in effect become one giant ice crystal structure that is impossible to unload. On conveyor belts, pulleys, rail tracks and other areas where ice can hold up operations, the same holds true.
Midwest's proven anti-icing and deicing solutions:
- Prevent and melts snow, ice and freezing frost from surfaces
- Eliminates interruptions, downtime, and loss of power
- Increases safety while reducing costs
- Decreases the need for costly, manual de-icing
- Remains in place, activating as needed
- More effective than heaters
